About Our Area Ogemaw County Michigan

THERE ARE FOUR SEASONS OF WONDERFUL THINGS TO DO IN OGEMAW COUNTY!
COME JOIN US...

WINTER: Six miles north of West Branch on Fairview Road you will find Ogemaw Hills Pathways- 16 miles of groomed cross country ski trails winding through the Ogemaw State Forest. The trails range from easy to very difficult to challenge skiers of all skill levels. For those who love to snowmobile, the Ogemaw Hills Snowmobile Club grooms some 75 miles of trails, which connect with other trails to permit rides over hundreds of miles throughout Northern Michigan and beyond. The Frank Alley Memorial Park on Fairview, about 10 miles north of West Branch provides parking and rest rooms as well as a map board and access to trails. Ice Fishing is always a favorite sport and with more than 100 lakes in Ogemaw County there are plenty of places to set up the ice shanty.

SPRING AND SUMMER: Of course, fishing and boating on the area lakes has to top the list of recreation enjoyment for most visitors to Ogemaw County. But there is much more to do here, too. Try canoeing and camping on the Rifle River. There are numerous canoe liveries located up and down the river. Or spend your time camping, hiking and fishing at the Rifle River Recreation Area, a state park located on Rose City Road east of Rose City. There are ten scenic lakes and miles of streams within the area offering all types of fishing. Or bring your bicycles and ride the meandering pathways (also great for cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter). Or climb the observation tower for a fantastic view of the whole recreation area. For the ORV enthusiast there are ORV Trails near Rose City. Or take a lunch and spend the day feeding tame deer at the 700 acre Ogemaw Nature Center west of Rose City on Rose City Road. And there is always golf for those people who can never spend too many hours on the golf course.

FALL: If hunting is your favorite pastime then Ogemaw County is the place for you! With thousands of acres of Huron National Forest and Ogemaw State Forest land surrounding Ogemaw County, the deer hunting couldn't be better. Of course, for the avid hunter there is also wild turkey, black bear, ruffed grouse, woodcock, squirrel and rabbits.

Let's not forget, too, that there are many other great things to do in Ogemaw County: Spend the day shopping at the TANGER FACTORY OUTLET CENTER or in VICTORIAN DOWNTOWN WEST BRANCH. Take the kids for a round of miniature golf at INDIAN VILLAGE, or take a step back in time at the OGEMAW COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM. And don't miss the OGEMAW COUNTRY FAIR and the VICTORIAN ART FESTIVAL in August. There is also a movie theater in town, several bowling alleys and a roller rink.
